Former Rayz goaltender shines in NHL

September 22, 2006 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Corpus Christi IceRays News Release

Former Corpus Christi Rayz goaltender, Scott Reid made his National Hockey League debut last Sunday as a member of the Nashville Predators. Reid stopped all 13 shots he faced in a scoreless third period as the Predators fell 2-0 to the Columbus Blue Jackets in the first preseason exhibition game of the year. Reid did not figure into the decision, but was perfect in his 20 minute debut, making key saves to keep the Predators in the contest. Reid was the Rayz top goaltender last season and was called up to the American Hockey League on several different occasions, appearing with four clubs.

Last season with the Rayz, the 29-year old Reid led the Central Hockey League in saves per game (34.3) while finishing in the league's top ten in GAA (2.85) and save percentage (.923). During the season, Reid's performance with the Rayz earned him several promotions to the AHL's Chicago Wolves, Milwaukee Admirals, Norfolk Admirals and Peoria Rivermen. Overall last season, Reid played in a career high eight AHL games and finished with a 3-2-1 record, a 1.93 GAA and a .931 save percentage. Based on that success, Reid was signed earlier this summer by the Milwaukee Admirals - the primary minor league affiliate of the Nashville Predators. In the first exhibition game of the season, Reid began the game as the secondary netminder for the Predators before being inserted into the game at the beginning of the third period. Reid then made 13 saves on 13 shots shots for a successful NHL debut.

"An opportunity like this couldn't have happened to a better player or better person than Scott Reid," said Rayz General Manager. "He gave this team everything he had and certainly lived up to his billing last season. In turn we were able to help him take the next step in his career. He had never appeared in an AHL game prior to last season and now he's played in the NHL. That's what it's all about."

Prior to joining Corpus Christi, Reid won the Central Hockey League's Most Outstanding Goaltender Award in 2003-04 as a member of the San Angelo Saints -- he finished as the runner up for the award last season. In 2004 and 2005, Reid was named the CHL's Southern Conference Starting Goaltender in the All-Star Game. Last season, Reid was once again named to the Southern Conference team, however he was unable to participate because he was in the AHL at the time of the game.

The Corpus Christi Rayz are currently in preparation for the 2006-2007 season. The Rayz return to the American Bank Center is only 29 days away. Corpus Christi will begin their season at home on October 21st vs. the Laredo Bucks at 7:05pm. Season ticket packages and corporate sponsorship opportunities are currently available.
