Former Quad City Standout Frank Carter Named League's All-Time Best Linebacker

CHICAGO - The arenafootball2 league (af2) announced today that FB/LB FRANK CARTER has been named the league's top linebacker of all-time, as selected by a group of af2 head coaches past and present, members of the media and fans throughout the country. Carter spent his two-year af2 career with the Quad City Steamwheelers, helping the team win back-to-back ArenaCup Championships in the first two years of the league (2000, 2001). Carter's presence and performance on defense keyed the Steamwheelers' to a perfect 19-0 season in 2000 and an almost flawless 18-1 campaign in 2001. The 2000 Steamwheelers squad was recently voted the Top af2 Team of All Time.
"Frank was an outstanding af2 player who only got better in the AFL thanks to his experience in our league," said af2 President Jerry Kurz. "He is regarded as one of the all-time Steamwheeler greats who helped lead the squad to back-to-back league championships."

Frank Carter at a glance
Frank Carter was a key cog in the Quad City machine that dominated the af2 in the league's first two seasons. In 2000 the Steamwheelers completed the season a perfect 19-0 overall. Carter was part of a stingy Quad City defense that led the af2 in scoring defense, allowing just 29.6 points per game and 65 total touchdowns. Both marks are the second lowest single season totals allowed in league history. During this groundbreaking season, Carter tallied 15 total tackles, including 5.5 sacks and 3.0 tackles for loss despite missing five games due to injury. He ranked second on the squad in sacks and rushing yards (54) while also contributing three rushing touchdowns. Carter, apparently not satisfied with second place, came back in 2001 and led the Steamwheelers in sacks (8.5) and rushing yards (84). He finished with 27 total tackles, including eight for loss, and had two blocked kicks. He also ranked second on the team in rushing TDs with nine. Carter broke into the AFL in 2002, where he played for seven seasons and accrued 98 tackles, 21 sacks and 41 rushing TDs. He was named First Team All-AFL in 2005 while playing with the Las Vegas Gladiators and earned a spot on the All-Ironman Team in 2006 while playing for the Nashville Kats.
