Former Outlaws Make Frozen Four

April 8, 2009 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
North Iowa Outlaws News Release

Mason City (IA) Two former members of the North Iowa Outlaws are gearing up with the remainder of their Bemidji State teammates for this weekend's NCAA Division I Frozen Four in Washington, DC. Shea Walters and Tyler Jundt each spent last season with the Outlaws and now play for the Beavers, who shocked many in collegiate hockey circles by winning the Grand Rapids, MI regional two weeks ago. The Beavers now earn the distinction of being the first program outside one of the major hockey conferences to earn a trip to the Frozen Four, something equitable to George Mason's run in the NCAA basketball tournament a few years ago.

Bemidji State faces Miami-Ohio on Thursday with the winner taking on either Boston University or Vermont in the national championship game on Saturday. Two wins by the Beavers would make national champions out of both Walters and Jundt who each have seen a regular shift in their rookie seasons.

Walters has 15pts (4g, 11a) while Jundt hasn't recorded a point so far for the Beavers.

Along with the two former Outlaws, there are a total of eight North American Hockey League alumni on the Beavers roster, the most of any program competing in the Frozen Four.

The North Iowa Outlaws Hockey Club is in its fourth season as members of the North American Hockey League. The NAHL is the nation's largest Junior A hockey league and is now in its 33nd year of operation. For more information, visit northiowaoutlaws.com or call (641) 424-5468.

Outlaws home games are played at the North Iowa Ice Arena in Mason City, IA. All games will be broadcasted on northiowaoutlaws.com and video broadcast through B/2 Network.
