Former NFL Player Boosts Edge Offensive Line

Bloomington, IL. - Saturday July 21st the Bloomington Edge hosts their 3rd game of the summer season taking on the Elite Indoor Football All-Stars. The All-Star team is comprised of the top players from each team in the EIF (a league primarily of east coast teams). The Edge has started out hot this season with a 2-0 record. They are averaging 54.5 points per game and holding their opponents to 15.5 points per game.
Much of the Edge's success has stemmed from the constant work of their offensive line, including Edge newcomer Drew McDonald. McDonald is a 6'6", 310 lb. offensive tackle out of Warren Central High School in Indianapolis. In his high school years, McDonald won 4 consecutive state football championships, was rated as the 10th best prospect in the state of Indiana by Rivals.com and was a 3-year varsity football letter winner. He went on to attend Indiana University while starting every game during his junior and senior seasons with the Hoosiers. He was also named a two-time game captain and helped lead the team to 5 games with over 200+ rushing yards during his senior year.
After graduating from IU in 2011, McDonald went undrafted. He was invited to the Miami Dolphins minicamp which led to a rookie contract with the team. McDonald had multiple stints with NFL teams including the Carolina Panthers, Indianapolis Colts and the Seattle Seahawks. During his tenure in the NFL, McDonald got to compete with and against big-name players like Cam Newton, JJ Watt and Joe Thomas. When McDonald signed with the Seahawks, he appeared in 2 games during the 2014 season, where he made a total of 13 appearances on Special Teams
After being released from the NFL, McDonald returned home to Carmel, Indiana and got more involved with his church. His urge to get back on the football field never went away.
"I decided to get back into football because I believe that I need to keep playing. I love the game. I love the camaraderie and competition...Nothing is more thrilling and satisfying as walking in the purpose that [God] created you for. My abilities and talents on the field are a gift from Him and I wanted to continue using them for His glory.
When the Edge called McDonald, he was thrilled to have another shot at doing what he loves.
"I am so appreciative of Coach Johnson bringing me in. It has been a blessing being here in Bloomington and getting involved in the local community," McDonald added. He also has some advice for everyone playing any sport at any level.
"Don't take any plays off. Every rep you get, give all you have. Be the guy that goes hard when everyone is taking it easy. Play with confidence. Eat clean and invest in your future health. Seek God's will and purpose for your life and keep an eternal perspective."
