Tupelo T-Rex News Release

TUPELO, MS---The Tupelo T-Rex professional hockey team is pleased to announce former Memphis RiverKings goaltender Mark Richards as the team's Head Coach for the 2003-04 campaign.

Selected in the 1990 National Hockey League supplemental draft by the Winnipeg Jets, Richards brings with him a wealth of hockey knowledge as he moves from between the pipes to behind the bench. He has played at various levels throughout his 11 season professional career, including stops in the International Hockey League, American Hockey League, United Hockey League, East Coast Hockey League and Central Hockey League.

A member of three championship teams, the 2002 and 2003 CHL Champion Memphis RiverKings, along with the 2000 UHL Champion Flint Generals, Richards knows what it takes to win and brings a strong work ethic and desire to succeed to the Tupelo T-Rex.

“This is a great opportunity for me, and I am absolutely thrilled to be apart of the T-Rex organization,” Richards said. “The recruiting process is already underway, and we are working hard to bring in quality players and build a solid, successful team on the ice.”

A native of Abington, Pennsylvania, Richards is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts-Lowell with a degree in Business Management.

"We interviewed a stack of coaching candidates, and have been impressed with Mark's desire to become a head coach,” T-Rex Owner Monty Fletcher said. "He is a name our fans here locally can relate to through the Memphis connection and we are confident he will be able to field a competitive team this season as we make a return to professional hockey."

Richards will be available to meet with local media today, Tuesday, August 19th from 3:00 to 4:00pm at the BancorpSouth Center in Tupelo.

Season tickets are currently on sale for the 2003-04 season as the T-Rex bring the BITE back to the Jungle. For more information, call the T-Rex at (662) 844-PUCK.
