Former Maryland Nighthawks Guard Brian Chase Signs Contract With Miami Heat

Rockville, MD, - The National Basketball Association's Miami Heat announced that they have signed former Maryland Nighthawks guard Brian Chase to a contract. The deal is believed to be over two years worth approximately $1.4 million.

"Brian exemplified what it takes to play at the premier level of play during his time with the Nighthawks," stated Nighthawks Co-owner Jeanette McCool. "Our entire organization wishes him the utmost success in the NBA and with the Miami Heat,"

During the 2004-05 season, Chase appeared in 13 games for the Nighthawks, then members of the American Basketball Association, and averaged 18.4 points and 2.3 assists helping to lead the team to the ABA Quarterfinals.

Prior to signing with the Heat, Chase spent the first seven games of the 2006-07 season with the Utah Jazz. After being released, Chase signed with the Los Angeles D-Fenders of the NBA Development League where he started all 32 games.

Chase spent the 2005-06 season with the Gary Steelheads of the Continental Basketball Association and then appeared in the final three games for the Roanoke Dazzle of the NBA D-League. After that stint, Chase played for the Nebraska Cranes of the United States Basketball League.

Chase attended Virginia Tech University, where he finished as the all-time leader in three-point percentage at 40.9 percent and ranked 26th all-time in scoring with 1,115 points after appearing in 103 games (79 starts) during his four-year colligate career.
