Former MAINEiac Adrien Lemay with Texas Stars
December 29, 2010 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL)
Lewiston MAINEiacs News Release
Goaltender Adrien Lemay needs no introduction to the MAINEiacs faithful! We remember the flashy saves, the times he single-handedly kept us in games, and his work ethic. From his current home in Allen, Texas, where he has a "red hot" (see below!) 8-2-1-0 record with the Allen Americans of the Central Hockey League, Lemay shares that he misses Simones, Lewiston fans, early practice with his MAINEiacs teammates, his billets, and much more...
1. How is Texas living
Texas is nice! I went to the rink with a t-shirt and a pair of shorts up till late November, so it is pretty nice weather. But I have to say Florida [Lemay was with the ECHL's Florida Everblades last season] was awesome too. It was nice to go to the beach after practice! I was expecting Texas to be more country, but I'm actually playing in a big city close to Dallas. One thing that amazes me every day here is the sunset - it is just incredible.
2. What is your favorite memory as a MAINEiac
I have a lot of good memories with the MAINEiacs, but all the wins against Quebec are my best memories! I can't describe the feeling I had when we beat my old team and my old friends. Our team played so well during those games, and I'm really thankful to my teammates.
3. Do you have any Americans teammates who are from back home
The only guy that is close from back home is Alexandre Quesnel. He is from Montreal. He played in the QMJHL for Cape Breton, Gatineau and Val-d'Or. He was my roommate, so it was nice to have someone to talk french with! I also taught him how to cook too - haha!
4. How often do you get to see your family in Quebec City
I haven't seen my family since I left for the beginning of the season, but I talk with them on the computer with Skype. The great thing with Skype is that I can talk and see them too. So it is how I keep in touch with my family and friends.
5. Any major adjustments in style of play from QMJHL to ECHL to CHL
The biggest difference between junior and the pro is probably the size of the players and also the speed. The players are faster, and their shots are harder. If you work hard and you are dedicated to getting better, you'll get used to the level of play pretty quickly.
6. Tell us about those five games as back-up for the Texas Stars (AHL)...we are so proud!
When Lehtonen got hurt in Dallas, the first goalie in Austin got called up. So that's why I got the call to go up in Austin. It was really nice to be with them. Every day I was learning something new. After being up there, you just want to work even harder to get there!
7. What do you most miss about Lewiston
There are a lot of things that I miss from Lewiston: - early practice with the boys, - school with the fellas, - Stefan Fournier always has something to say ahahah!, - half and half at Simones with the boys, but especially with my buddy Etienne Brodeur, - crazy stuff that Sam Henley and I would get ourselves into, - hearing the fans scream: Yo Adrien!!!!!, - talking about Jersey Shore with Cameron, - talking about Taylor Swift with the west island crew (Chaput, Bissonette, Fournier), and - all the crazy Fans we had in Lewiston!
8. What do you most miss about your billets Gary & Elaine Hemenway
They made me feel I was part of their family - they are great people, I miss all the dinners we had - the food was always so good, and it was always a fun time, I miss their Sunday brunches - got to say I was pretty full after every one of those, I miss hearing Elaine scream after the Bruins score - hahaha! We often watched them on tv, I miss playing nerf guns with their grandchildren! Elaine makes the best meat pie in the world too!, and I miss joking around with Gary.
9. What are you doing for fun outside of hockey
During the season I don't have too much free time, so when I do, I try to relax as much as possible, because a pro season is long and hard. But during the summer, I like to go fishing with my friends or just go to the lake. It is very relaxing - I love it! I try to spend as much time with my family as possible too. My cousins and I also like to drive in the mud with my big red truck, and every time I do that, I make sure I wear my John Deere hat that Elaine and Gary got me last year, haha!
10. Any game day rituals you can share with fans
On game day I always wear red underwear, because I want to have a red hot game! Other than that, I always do goalie drills with tennis balls and some stretching.
