MUSKEGON, Michigan (March 30th) - The Muskegon Lumberjacks are excited to announce that former Lumberjack Matt Berry has signed a professional contract after recently completing his collegiate career with the Spartans of Michigan State University out of the Big Ten Conference. The Lumberjacks alum has agreed to an amateur tryout agreement with the Norfolk Admirals out of the American Hockey League (AHL), who is the affiliate of the Anaheim Ducks in the National Hockey League (NHL).

Berry, the Canton, Michigan native, skated in 130 career games with the Spartans from 2011-15 totaling 48 goals and 48 assists that includes leading the team in overall scoring during both his sophomore (31 points) and senior (29 points) seasons. This season, Berry's 29-point output placed the senior in a tie for 12th in the Big Ten Conference leading to Honorable Mention All-Big Ten honors.

Before attending Michigan State, Berry skated in one season for the Lumberjacks during the 2010-11 campaign, the organization's first season in the USHL. In 62 games combined between the regular season and playoffs, the forward led Muskegon in goals scored with 29 while finishing second in points accumulating 57.

The former Belle Tire and Honeybaked product joins former Lumberjacks teammate Ryan Misiak (Reading Royals - ECHL) in alumni signing professional contracts following their respective senior years in college this season. The Norfolk Admirals also consists of former Lumberjack Jaycob Megna, who was a teammate of both Berry and Misiak during the 2010-11 season.
