Lancaster JetHawks News Release

(LANCASTER, CA) - Friday night former JetHawks outfielder Josh Reddick became the fifth player this season to make his Major League debut after playing in Lancaster. The native of Georgia appeared for one at bat Friday night, and then got his first hit when he started in right field for the Boston Red Sox Saturday night. Reddick went 2-4 in his first start with two doubles and a walk. Reddick becomes the 87th player to go from Lancaster to the Major Leagues in the JetHawks' 14-year history.

This number was recently revised. In an effort to compare lists with California League historian Chris Lampe, it was discovered that three of the previously listed players had actually appeared in the Major Leagues before their time with the JetHawks, making them ineligible for the list.

Reddick spent most of the 2008 season in Lancaster and becomes the first player from last year's squad to make the big leagues. After starting in Low-A, Reddick came to Lancaster at the end of April and played 76 games with the JetHawks. He was then promoted to Double-A to end the season. Reddick hit an impressive .343 with 17 home runs and 57 runs driven in and was widely considered one of the most talented players in the California League.

Reddick is the fifth former JetHawk to make his Major League Debut in 2009. Pitchers Daniel Bard and Hunter Jones along with first baseman Aaron Bates have also debuted with Boston this season while Esmerling Vasquez is now pitching for the Arizona Diamondbacks.
