Savannah Sand Gnats News Release

SAVANNAH, Ga. - Starting pitcher and former Sand Gnat John Lannan is scheduled to start today's game for the Washington Nationals against the Philadelphia Phillies at 1:05 p.m. It will be the 22-year-old lefty's major league debut.

Lannan spent the entire 2006 season with the Gnats compiling a 6-8 record and a 4.76 ERA. After working on locating his fastball and gaining confidence in his changeup in spring training this season, Lannan began the 2007 season with the Potomac Nationals, Washington's Advanced Class-A affiliate. He is in the middle of a breakout season, combining for a 12-3 record and a 2.35 ERA between Potomac, Double-A Harrisburg and Triple-A Columbus (Ohio).

Lannan was selected by the Washington Nationals in the 11th round of the 2005 draft out of Siena (N.Y.) College. He will be the 35th former Sand Gnat to appear in a major league game and the first from the 2006 team.
