East Kentucky Miners News Release

PIKEVILLE, KY. - Another former East Kentucky Miner is making news as he continues on his professional basketball journey. The Reno Bighorns selected former East Kentucky Miner Marcus Heard in Round 9 of the 2008 NBA Developmental League Draft held Saturday, Nov. 8. Heard spent the 2007-08 season in the CBA with the East Kentucky Miners, averaging 6.8 points and 4.1 rebounds. The 6-7 forward earned a CBA All-Rookie Team honor following his rookie season.

Heard came to the East Kentucky professional basketball franchise after enjoying a successful collegiate career for the storied DePaul University program. He averaged 6.4 points and 4.5 rebounds during his senior season for the Blue Demons.

"I'm really happy for Marcus," said East Kentucky Miners Coach Kevin Keathley. "I feel as though he has an NBA body. He has a great touch from the outside. Marcus has a lot of upside and if he continues to work hard, there will be no limit to what he can accomplish as a pro."

Complete rosters for each of the 16 2008-09 NBA D-League teams will be comprised of the 10 players franchises drafted Saturday along with seven returning, allocation, and local tryout players. Rosters will be reduced to 12 players on Nov. 20 and opening-day 10-man rosters must be set by Nov. 26 in anticipation of the Nov. 28 tip off of the NBA D-League's eighth season. Each team will play one preseason game between Nov. 19 and 25.
