
Former Charlotte Assistant Baseggio Named Head Coach For Bridgeport Of AHL

PRINCETON, N.J. - The Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American Hockey League
have named former Charlotte assistant coach David Baseggio as the third
head coach in team history.
The 37-year old Baseggio began his professional coaching career with
Charlotte working as an assistant coach in 2000-01 before being named as
Bridgeport's assistant coach. He helped the Sound Tigers reach the Calder
Cup Finals in 2002 and in 2003-04 the team set team records for
goals-against average, fewest goals allowed and highest penalty-killing
percentage. Bridgeport also had a league record 20-game unbeaten streak
(17-0-3) in 2003-04 as Baseggio was selected to be an assistant coach for
the PlanetUSA Team in the 2004 AHL All-Star Classic.
Other former ECHL coaches who are head coaches for AHL teams are former
Toledo coach Claude Noel, who is head coach of Milwaukee; former Roanoke
Valley coach Roy Sommer, who is head coach of Cleveland; former Dayton
coach Greg Ireland, who is head coach of Grand Rapids; former Richmond and
Virginia coach Dave Allison, who is head coach of Iowa; former Roanoke
coach Scott Gordon, who is head coach of Providence and Don Granato, who is
associate head coach of Peoria.
Other former ECHL coaches in the AHL are former Nashville and Johnstown
coach Nick Fotiu, who is an assistant with Hartford; former Mobile
assistant coach Matt Shaw, who is an assistant with Houston; former
Johnstown coach Scott Allen, who is an assistant coach with Lowell; former
Jacksonville and Trenton coach Bruce Cassidy, who worked as an assistant
coach with Norfolk in 2004-05; former Trenton assistant coach Kjell
Samuelsson, who is an assistant coach with Philadelphia; and former
Columbia head coach Scott White, who is now director of hockey operations
for Iowa.
For the 16th consecutive season in 2004-05, an ECHL player is a member of
the Calder Cup Champion and the ECHL had affiliations with 23 of the 28
teams in the AHL in 2004-05.
