Casper -The Colorado Rockies announced today that the club has acquired outfielder Matt Murton from the Oakland Athletics in exchange for minor league infielder Corey Wimberly. Wimberly was a member of the Casper Rockies during the 2005 season where he had a .381 batting average and stole 36 bases.
The 25-year-old Wimberly was selected by Colorado in the sixth round of the 2005 June draft (signed June 11, 2005 by Damon Iannelli). The middle infielder is a career .312 (429-for-1376) hitter in the minors. A native of Jacksonville, Florida, Wimberly has 429 career hits in 354 games. He led the Double-A Texas League in stolen bases (59) in 2008 and was rated by Baseball America as the Rockies fastest prospect following the season.
