
Former Bulldog Pig Prather Joins 'Ants 2004 Lineup

Faulkner, Mississippi native Pig Prather has signed with the Tupelo FireAnts professional indoor football team for the 2004 season.
The 6-foot-2, 200-pound Prather started out as a tailback for Mississippi State before switching to the secondary his last three years as a Bulldog.
Prather finished his career at MSU with 221 tackles (153 solos), seven sacks for minus-53 yards and 16 stops for losses of 73 yards. He caused seven fumbles and recovered four others, intercepted four passes and had 10 pass deflections. Prather also returned 117 punts for 125 yards and 59 kickoffs for 1,390 yards.
In 2000, Prather was named to the All-Southeastern Conference first team by the Associated Press and The Football News. He was also a second team All-America selection by The Sports Xchange and The Sporting News, as well being a finalist for The Football News' Defensive Player of the Year Award. In 2001, he was an All-SEC first team selection by The NFL Draft Report.
A product of Faulkner High School, Prather was a highly regarded high school player in the State of Mississippi. Pig carried the football 179 times for 1,506 yards (8.4 avg) and 22 touchdowns in 1997. Prather also scored six touchdowns via kickoff and interception returns. He rushed the ball 174 times for 1,610 yards as a junior, a 9.25-yard per carry average, and 22 touchdowns. Prather finished fourth among the state's 1A schools in rushing. As a standout defender, he had 106 tackles and seven interceptions and was selected to play in the Mississippi/Alabama high school all-star game as a defensive back.
"We are excited to sign another All-Southeastern Conference player with the addition of Pig to the FireAnts," Head Coach Bobby Hall said. "This sends a positive message to our community that we are turning things around, building up this quality program...and you have to be excited about that."
The FireAnts will hold their first team tryout for the 2004 season this Saturday, August 16th at Robbins Field in Tupelo, located at the corner of Jackson and Church Streets. Registration begins at 8:00am and interested participants will need to bring cleats, running shoes, and workout clothing appropriate for the weather. The cost is $50 and includes a FireAnts T-Shirt and two tickets to the 2004 home opener.
