Butler, PA - April 3, 2013 - Former Butler BlueSox' infielder Shane Houck has been promoted to the Augusta GreenJackets, the Class-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, for the start of the 2013 season.
Houck played last season in the Arizona League where he went .291/.410/.491 over 34 games. He knocked 12 extra-base hits, including four home runs.
Having played college ball at Kutztown University of Pennsylvania, Houck was drafted by the Giants in 29th round of the 2012 MLB June Amateur Draft.
Houck led the 2011 BlueSox in multiple offensive categories. He still holds Butler's single-season for doubles (19), home runs (10), and slugging percentage (.603). Houck shifted from the outfield to third base for much of his time in Butler, he will continue to play at the hot corner in Augusta.
Kevan Smith, member of the BlueSox in 2010, will return to the Winston-Salem Dash this summer. The Dash are the High-A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox in the Carolina League. Smith joined the Dash at the end of last season, hitting .273/.314/.494 over the final 22 games of the season.
Drafted by the White Sox in the 7th round of the 2011 MLB June Amateur Draft, Smith was ranked this past off-season by Baseball America as the second-best catching prospect in the White Sox' organization.
Smith, who attended the University of Pittsburgh, hit .347/.448/.447 for the BlueSox in 2010. He played in 46 games and his batting average ranked fourth in the Prospect League.
Augusta opens their season at home in Georgia on April 4 against the Lexington Legends. Winston-Salem begins their season on the road in Zebulon, North Carolina on April 5.
