Former BayBears Tackle Braves at Turner Field This Weekend

MOBILE, Ala. - The NL-best Arizona Diamondbacks file into Atlanta this weekend to battle the Braves at Turner Field for a four-game series beginning on Friday night and ending on Monday afternoon.

In the opening game of the series, former BayBear Max Scherzer will be on the bump for the D-backs against left-hander Jo-Jo Reyes. Scherzer has been magnificent to start his big league career. He's posted a 2.33 ERA while striking out 23 batters in 19.1 innings. In his last outing against Detroit, Scherzer allowed just three hits and no earned runs in five frames.

Game two of the series on Saturday afternoon will feature a pair of southpaws destined for Cooperstown as 305-game winner Tom Glavine hurls for Atlanta against the "Big Unit" Randy Johnson. Johnson has 288 career wins and more strikeouts than any left-hander in history with 4,653. The game is expected to be broadcast nationally on FOX including FOX 10 in Mobile (check local listings).

The final two games of the series can be seen on SportSouth as Micah Owings goes up against Jorge Campillo on Sunday afternoon while 2006 NL Cy Young Award winner Brandon Webb pitches on Monday against early NL Rookie of the Year candidate Jair Jurrjens. Webb is a perfect 9-0 with a 2.56 ERA while Jurrjens is 4-3 with a 2.82 mark.

Former BayBears Justin Upton and Mark Reynolds will be in the lineup consistently throughout the season. Both men have been tormenting major league pitchers all season with Upton making an All-Star bid thanks to a .310 batting average, six homers and 21 RBI. Reynolds has established himself has one of the top offensive third basemen in the National League with seven taters and 28 RBI, on pace to hit 25 bombs with 95 runs batted in for the season.
