Tennessee Valley Raptors News Release
Huntsville, AL - Former Auburn star wide receiver, Ronney Daniels, will be joining the Tennessee Valley Vipers this coming Monday when training camp opens. Daniels was assigned to the Vipers by af2 league office today.
"Ronney is a big, strong, physical receiver that will set us up for some good match-ups," Viper head coach Kevin Guy said. "It is not every day that you have the opportunity to pick up someone that has NFL experience. He looks like a good fit for us, as long as the Huntsville Stars don't try to steal him away from us."
Daniels played at Auburn in 1999 and 2000 before turning professional. He caught 90 passes for 1,446 yards and 12 touchdowns. He caught 56 passes for 1,068 yards and nine touchdowns as a freshman. He was named to the freshman All-America team by the Sporting News and was named SEC Freshman of the Year by the Associated Press.
He went to training camp with the New England Patriots as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2001. He was later waived by Patriots and signed with the Miami Dolphins. He would then spend a total of three stints and 13 regular season games and one playoff game on the Dolphins practice roster. He went to camp with Dolphins in again in 2002. He also went to camp with the Orlando Predators of the Arena Football League earlier this year.
He originally signed with the University of Florida out of Lake Wales High School, where he earned All-State and All-America honors. The Montreal Expos drafted him in the sixth round of the 1995 Major League Baseball Draft and he played three seasons of minor league baseball before joining the Auburn football team.
The Vipers also picked up fullback/linebacker, Dedric Maffett, in a trade with the Florida Firecats. He has played in 28 career regular season games for the Firecats and the Columbus Wardogs. He has rushed for 237 yards on 67 carries and scored eight touchdowns, caught eight passes for 61 yards and one touchdown, recorded 85 tackles, seven tackles for a loss of 19 yards, 3.5 sacks for 29 yards, four quarterback hits, one interception, two pass break ups, one blocked kick, one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries.
