Austin Ice Bats News Release

The Austin Ice Bats of the Central Hockey League today announced the hiring of Jeff Greenlaw as the team's new Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations. Serving as a player and Assistant Coach for the past five seasons, Greenlaw played an integral role in building a team that reached the CHL President's Cup Finals in each of the last two seasons, and won the Governors' Cup with the best regular season record last year.

"We are ecstatic about having Jeff Greenlaw as the man to lead our organization forward," said Jeff Buch, Ice Bats President and CEO. "We believe Jeff's coaching philosophy and style is a great fit for our organization, and he will be an outstanding coach. He knows the league as well as anybody, and he has a tremendous rapport with the players who will serve as the nucleus of our team.

A former first round draft pick and NHL player, Greenlaw enters the coaching ranks after a 17-year pro career. Greenlaw played with the Canadian National Team in 1985, and was a first round draft selection of the Washington Capitals in 1986. After seven years in the Capitals organization, he signed as a free agent with Florida in 1993—in total, appearing in 57 NHL games over five seasons with the Capitals and Panthers. Greenlaw then spent five seasons with Cincinnati in the International League before coming to Austin in 1998.

After finishing his career with five years in Austin, Greenlaw ranks among the Ice Bats' career leaders in several categories—fourth in games played, sixth in goals and points scored, and third in all-time penalty minutes. The 35-year-old Toronto-area native lives in Austin full-time with his wife Tiffany, and daughter Lindsey.

"I want to thank our new ownership for this tremendous opportunity," Greenlaw said. "We're aggressively pursuing a core group of players we want to retain, and build the team around. Our goals are to continue the standard of excellence we've set for ourselves over the past few seasons... and to make sure that coming to our games is one of the most exciting things a fan can do, as a family or an individual.
