Former All-Star Jason Isringhausen transferred to Durham on rehab assignment

Durham, NC - The Tampa Bay Rays today announced Jason Isringhausen has been transferred to Durham on a Major League rehab assignment. The two-time all-star joined Tampa Bay this season after spending the last seven seasons as the closer for the St. Louis Cardinals.

Isringhausen signed a minor league contract with the Rays in February and was placed on the disabled list as he recovers from elbow surgery he had last August. He just completed a four-appearance stint with the Montgomery Biscuits (Double-A), with three of them scoreless.

Isringhausen began his career as a starting pitcher with the New York Mets in 1995 before injuries and a trade to Oakland transformed him into a relief pitcher in 1999. After two successful seasons as a closer with the Athletics, including an all-star game appearance in 2000, he signed as a free agent with St. Louis in 2001.

In seven seasons with the Cardinals, Isringhausen saved 217 games, including a league-leading 47 in 2004. He appeared in the 2005 all-star game and in the post-season with the Cardinals four times, including a World Series appearance in 2004.
