Alabama Hammers News Release
HUNTSVILLE -- The Alabama Hammers have re-signed a main component of their defense.
Former Alabama A&M linebacker Darian Payne -- an all-league selection last season -- has agreed to return for Alabama's inaugural 2012 Professional Indoor Football League campaign.
"It's great to have Darian back and he will obviously be one of our leaders on defense,'' said Hammers coach Marty Hammond, whose team will open training camp in February and open the season March 17 on the road against the Louisiana Swashbucklers.
"He's a hard-hitting, hard-working, intense player."
Payne was second on the team with 35 tackles last season and had a team-high eight interceptions to go along with a sack and three pass breakups in 11 games.
