Georgia Force News Release
NORCROSS, GA -- The Georgia Force of the Arena Football League is pleased to announce the signing of former Southern California quarterback Mitch Mustain.
Mustain (6-2, 230), who was named the 2005 National High School Player of the Year, originally began his collegiate career at the University of Arkansas, and as a freshman he ultimately won the right to be the Razorbacks starter behind center.
In games that he started during the 2006 season, Mustain, along with star running backs Darren McFadden, Felix Jones and Peyton Hillis, led Arkansas to an 8-0 record and completed 52.3 percent of his passes for 894 yards, 10 touchdowns and nine interceptions.
After his first-year at Arkansas, Mustain decided to transfer to USC when his former high school coach and offensive coordinator at Arkansas, Gus Malzahn, decided to leave for the offensive coordinator position at the University of Tulsa.
Mustain had to sit out the 2007 season, due to NCAA rules, but was able to participate on the scout team at USC.
During his career at USC, Mustain had to battle a deep depth chart that included the likes of Mark Sanchez, Matt Barkley and Aaron Corp. Mustain never emerged as a starter with the Trojans, but in limited action as a backup he completed 62.5 percent (52-of-89) of his passes for 505 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions.
This past April, Mustain went undrafted in the NFL Draft and signed a free agent contract with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. He was released in June.
