The Force would do all the game's scoring in the fourth inning. Second baseman led off the frame with a base hit. Center fielder Sharonda McDonald followed her with a single of her own off of Riptide pitcher Eileen Canney, who leads the NPF in ERA and strikeouts. Shortstop Chelsea Spencer singled to plate Friedman with the first run of the game, and moved McDonald to third base. With designated player Jenna Hall up, Spencer and McDonald executed a double steal with McDonald getting credit for a steal of home to make the score 2-0. On the play, Spencer would end up at third courtesy of a Riptide error. Hall then grounded out to second base and Spencer scored the game's final run.

Aside from the one half inning, the game belonged to the pitchers. Canney (7-4) matched Thorson on the night with eight strikeouts and four hits allowed. Thorson retired the last eight Riptide batters to seal the victory.

McDonald had two of the four Force hits, while center fielder Gina Carbonatto had two of the four hits for the Riptide.

The Force and Riptide continue their rivalry Thursday night at Martin Softball Field. Game two of the vital four-game series is scheduled for a 7:05 p.m. first pitch.
