Force Re-Sign Kicker of the Year Martinez

October 10, 2011 - Arena Football League (AFL)
Georgia Force News Release

Duluth, GA - Force kicker Carlos Martinez was named NAPA Kicker of the Year following an outstanding 2011 campaign. On Monday, the team announced that Martinez will again wear a Force uniform when he defends his title in 2012.

"He's a weapon for us," said Force head coach Dean Cokinos, "not only on PATs and field goals, but on any given kickoff, he gives our team a chance to get a recovery with his variety of kicks that always seem to hit a bar or an upright or come directly off the net into the field of play."

In 2011, Martinez led all Arena Football League kickers with 146 points and a 91.1 percent success rate on extra points. He finished tied for second in total field goals with 11 and second in field goal percentage at 61.1%. His longest field goal last year was a 47-yarder, the second-longest kick in the league in 2011. He converted over 100 extra points for the fifth time as an AFL kicker. He has spent time in camp with a number of NFL teams, including Kansas City, Tampa Bay, Atlanta, and Philadelphia. He spent 2006 and 2007 on the practice squad for the Dallas Cowboys.

"Carlos is, hands down, the best kicker I've worked with or had on any of my teams," said Cokinos. "He is truly gifted."

He is the ninth member of last year's Force squad to re-sign with the team, joining a group including quarterback Darnell Kennedy and wide receiver Larry Shipp.
