Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Pulling away to a four-goal lead near the midpoint of Tuesday's matchup, the Fargo Force claimed a 6-3 victory against the Waterloo Black Hawks at Young Arena, pushing the best-of-five playoff series between the teams to its full duration.

The Force opened the scoring at 6:39 of the first period, when Dominic Toninato put the puck into an open net during a power play after a collision knocked goaltender Cal Petersen out of the crease. Fargo broke sustained pressure to make the score 2-0 at 11:47 when Gabe Guertler and Dave Gust combined to set up Austin Ortega from the left wing circle.

Early in the second, the Force built their lead to its largest. At 6:12, Alex Iafallo's shot out of the left wing corner deflected off of a Black Hawk and into the net. Then Ortega found his own rebound for a goal at 11:50.

The Black Hawks rallied back within two before the end of the period, beginning with a wrist shot snapped into the cage at 13:28 when Taylor Cammarata was left with room to work between the circles. Justin Kloos' strong move out of the right wing corner created a rebound opportunity which Zach Stepan finished at 18:41, making the count 4-2 at the second intermission.

The Force stifled the Waterloo comeback effort 6:02 into the third period, when Brendan Harms fought through a check to score on a partial breakaway. Vince Hinostroza cut the deficit back to two goals with 2:17 to play, converting a give-and-go opportunity with assistance from Cammarata during a power play. However, Harms send a shot from the Waterloo blue line into an empty net with 29.8 seconds to go, effectively ending the contest.

The Black Hawks and Force meet for one final time to settle the series Wednesday evening in Fargo at 7:05PM. The winner of Game Five will meet the Sioux Falls Stampede in a Western Conference Finals series beginning this weekend.
