Philadelphia Force News Release

Allentown, Pennsylvania - After last night's cancelled game due to inclement weather, the Philadelphia Force of National Pro Fastpitch took on the New England Riptide at ECTB Stadium at Bicentennial Park. The Riptide won their fourth straight against the Force, 3-1, behind another strong pitching performance from Jocelyn Forest. Forest held the Force to six hits and struck out four on the night, while her defense committed three errors. Stephanie VanBrakle took the loss for the Force, her fourth on the season, as the team dropped to 6-13.

Riptide leadoff Lindy Winkler scored the first run of the game in the top of the first inning on a sacrifice fly by KJ Kelley. Winkler led off the game with a double to right center field, before advancing to third base on a fly ball to right field.

The Force bounced right back with a run, as Carri Leto matched Winkler's lead off single with one of her own, advancing to second on a throwing error by Riptide left fielder. Shortstop Chelsea Spencer then sacrificed Leto to third base, before Ryan Realmuto knocked a single up the middle, scoring Leto and tallying her sixth RBI on the season.

The Riptide scored run number two in the second against Force starter, VanBrakle. After a single and two walks, right fielder Kristin Vesely singled to score pinch runner, Tiffany Stewart. The Force were able to get out of the Riptide threat, as Realmuto picked off a runner and Spencer turned a double play.

The Force had every opportunity to come back in their half of the second, starting with back to back singles by Lindsey Cameron and Jaime Dacey. The runners both advanced on a Riptide throwing error, but the Force were unable to answer with runners on second and third with no runners out. An infield pop up, a ground out to third base, and a fly out to center field ended the scoring opportunity.

KJ Kelley homered in the bottom of the third inning, pushing the Riptide lead to 3-1.

After two scoreless innings, Spencer led off the bottom of the sixth inning with a single to the shortstop. Realmuto was unable to advance Spencer to second base and first baseman Jenna Hall grounded into her second double play of the night, ending the Force threat.

The Force rallied in the bottom of the seventh with two outs, after a single by VanBrakle and a walk by Emily Friedman, bringing the winning run to the plate, pinch hitter Melissa Ramirez. Ramirez ended the game with a pop up to the second baseman.

The Force will take on the Riptide in game two of the series on Friday, July 14th at 7:05 PM.
