Force Bolster Secondary
October 20, 2011 - Arena Football League (AFL)
Georgia Force News Release
In an effort to bolster their secondary, the Force has signed five defensive backs for 2012, two of whom have a degree of NFL experience.
Marrio Norman, a Greenwood, S.C. native, was a 2008 Preseason All-Big South and 2007 First Team All-Big South honoree while at Coastal Carolina. He led the team in tackles per game in 2007 with 6.63 and led the Big South with five interceptions. Three of the interceptions came in a contest against Presbyterian, after which he was named the team's Defensive Player of the Week.
A product of the University of Houston, Roland Cola is an arena veteran, having spent a total of six years between AFL and af2. He played in 14 games with New Orleans this summer, registering 55.0 total tackles, second-most on the VooDoo. He added an interception, as well as three pass breakups. He has spent time in AFL with Philadelphia and Shreveport-Bossier City, and in the CFL with Saskatchewan.
LeRoy Vann brings a bit of NFL experience to the Force roster, having spent time with San Francisco and Cincinnati. He signed as an undrafted free agent with the 49ers before being waived last August, and joined the Montreal Alouettes of the CFL, where he helped the team to the Grey Cup title. He then was signed and waived this summer during the Cincinnati Bengals' training camp. While in college at Florida A&M, he became one of five players in NCAA history to return both kicks and punts for over 1,000 yards in a career. He had 11 total returns for touchdowns, an NCAA best.
Demetrie McCray, who played college in Georgia at Albany State, was a member of the Albany Panthers' Southern Indoor Football League championship squad this season. He landed a slot on the All-SIFL Second Team as a defensive back. He has af2 experience as well, including a standout 2008 campaign with the South Georgia Wildcats when he led the team in tackles (70) and interceptions (9).
Dennis Rogan will carry the flag for the SEC in the secondary, having done his college work at Tennessee. While with the Volunteers, Rogan broke Willie Gault's 28-year old school record with 698 kickoff return yards. He led the team in all-purpose yards in 2008 with 798. He left Tennessee after the 2010 season to enter the NFL Draft, and signed with Tampa Bay afterward when he went undrafted.
