#foodfight Comes to MiLB.com
Published on May 17, 2013 under California League (CalL1) News Release
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. and NEW YORK, NY - Minor League Baseball⢠and MLB Advanced Media jointly announced today the launch of MiLB.com #foodfight, a socially-driven fan voting competition to determine America's favorite MiLB ballpark concession, across 160 Minor League markets. During the competition, which will unveil its winner in June, fans may cast votes via Twitter and at MiLB.com for their favorite food item in each of four colorfully evocative categories: Gut Busters, Hogs 'n' Dogs, Local Legends and Scrumptious Sandwiches. In addition, fans accessed the new MiLB app and MiLB.com and its network of league and club sites at record-breaking clips during the opening six weeks of the 2013 season, reflecting the continued growth and popularity of Minor League Baseball.
"Besides the action on the field, an important part of the overall appeal of Minor League Baseball for its fans is their experience at the ballpark, including the unique, localized and sometimes astounding meal options that teams offer," says Martin Keely, SVP, Partner Solutions, MLBAM. "Many teams get extraordinarily creative in their food offerings. We thought it would be fun to have fans weigh in on their personal favorites, whether it's the Helmet Nachos, Pickle Dog, Fang's Venom Burger, Fried Moon Pie or Jumbo Pork Tenderloin Sandwich and vie for the chance for their own road trip to the ballpark with the winning food item."
Fans may visit MiLB.com/foodfight to vote for their favorite food item in each of the four categories. Fans also may cast votes and rally their friends, family and followers to do so via Twitter by using the competition's designated hashtag (#foodfight) and including the nickname of the team selling the item or the food item itself in their tweet. They can cast as many votes as they wish, online or via Twitter. MiLB.com #foodfight also features a sweepstakes in which all those who vote will be entered for a chance to win a trip to the ballpark with the winning food item, which includes roundtrip airfare, accommodations, game tickets and other prizes.
The first round of voting will conclude May 29th to determine the top vote-getters in each of the four food categories. A final round of voting will begin May 30th and last one week, with the crowning of the MiLB.com #foodfight champion scheduled for June 6th.
