St. John's Fog Devils News Release
The St. John's Fog Devils completed its second-ever QMJHL Midget Entry Draft by selecting 14 players today in Charlottetown, PEI.
The Fog Devils had the 7th overall pick in today's draft and selected highly-touted local product Luke Adam. Adam played for the St. John's Midget 'AAA' Maple Leafs last season, and had been courted by several clubs leading up to the draft, but eventually landed in his hometown. After Adam, the Fog Devils selected Quebec native William Beaudoin (2nd pick, 15th overall), a defenceman who played with Levis (QC MAAA) last season. The Fog Devils 3rd choice, 26th overall, was Taylor MacDougal (NB MAAA) of Fredericton.
Aside from Adam, the Fog Devils selected six (6) other Newfoundland natives, including three (3) Newfoundland picks in a row, during this year's draft. Mitch Flynn was the highest selection after Adam and was the club's 4th choice, 62nd overall. Other Newfoundlanders selected include Chris Thorne (W - 5th choice, 80th overall), Alex Wall (D - 6th choice, 82nd overall), Kyle Hynes (W - 9th choice, 116th overall), Vincent Paiement (W - 12th choice, 158th overall). Paiement is the son of Fog Devils head coach and GM Real Paiement.
Other Draft Highlights include:
- Of the six (6) Newfoundlanders selected, all played with the St. John's "AAA" Midget Maple Leafs.
- Positional Breakdown for the Entry Draft includes one (1) goaltender, five (5) defencemen, and eight (8) wingers.
- Regional Breakdown includes six (6) Newfoundlanders, four (4) players from Quebec, two (2) players from Nova Scotia, one (1) player from New Brunswick, and one (1) player from PEI.
- Of the 12 players chosen (not including goaltenders), there was only one right-handed shot selected (Nicolas Cucuzza - Beniek, 11th pick, 134th overall).
- When the Fog Devils selected William Beaudoin in the first round (15th overall), it completed the first trade ever made by the franchise back on June 4, 2005. St. John's had traded their first-round pick in 2005 (2nd overall) to Acadie-Bathurst for their 2005 first-round pick (4th overall) and their first-round pick in 2006. The 2006 pick turned out to be Beaudoin.
