
Fog Devils Announce Assistant Coach

The St. John's Fog Devils confirmed today that Newfoundland native, Ed O'Brien, will be one of the club's Assistant Coaches for the 2005-06 season.
O'Brien has been involved in the game for over 25 years and has extensive coaching success and experience at the amateur level. He has years of experience with Hockey Canada's Program of Excellence, the St. John's "AAA" Maple Leafs and has been a scout with the Moncton Wildcats for eight (8) seasons. As a result of these roles, O'Brien brings to the Fog Devils an ability to evaluate Midget players and a strong knowledge of amateur hockey talent in Newfoundland and Labrador.
O'Brien was most recently the Head Coach of the Amherst Ramblers of the Maritime Junior Hockey League, where he guided the club to 25-24-6-1 record. His resume also includes Head Coaching positions with the St. John's "AAA" Maple Leafs (1990-2002), the Newfoundland and Labrador Canada Games Team (2000), Team Atlantic Under 17 Club (World Under 17 Championships, Czech Republic, 2000) and the Stephenville Jets (NSHL, 1981). He has been an Assistant Coach with the Ramblers (2004), Newfoundland and Labrador Canada Games Team (1995) and Team Atlantic Under 17 Club (World Under 17 Championships, Moncton, 1995).
As Coach of the "AAA" Maple Leafs, O'Brien won nine (9) Provincial "AAA" Midget Championship, two (2) Atlantic "AAA" Championships and a Bronze Medal at the National Midget Air Canada Cup. He has also worked with Canada's National Team on three (3) occasions.
The Fog Devils will open its first Training Camp in Newfoundland on Tuesday, August 16. Details of the Newfoundland Selection Camp and the Evaluation Camp will also be released at a later date.
The St. John's Fog Devils are the newest member of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and are one of 58 member clubs of the Canadian Hockey League. The franchise begins its inaugural season in September 2005.
