Orange County Flyers News Release
The Orange County Flyers opened their 2008 Golden Baseball League season in impressive fashion with a 7-3 win in Reno on Friday night.
Andre Simpson delivered seven strong innings to give Gary Carter his first win as the Flyers new manager. Simpson (1-0) gave up just one run and struck out six batters, while walking only one.
The Flyers revamped lineup came through with three homeruns. Sean Lorentz tied the game at 1-1 with a solo shot in the 3rd inning. Pat Breen and Fernando Pacheco gave the Flyers their winning margin with two-run shots.
The Reno SilverSox rallied to score two runs and load the bases in the 8th inning, but Monte Mansfield came in from the bullpen to get a clutch double play off the bat of John Hattig.
The Flyers will send Jeremy Zick and Matthew Merricks to the mound Saturday as part of a doubleheader against the SilverSox.
