June 8, 2006 - Northern League (NL)
Schaumburg Flyers News Release

The Schaumburg Flyers (14-6) opened up their seven game home stand the right way tonight at Alexian Field, coming back from a 3-0 defecit in the first inning to pick up the 5-3 win against the visiting Joliet JackHammers (5-14). The Flyers remain perfect against the JackHammers this season.

The Joliet Jackhammers took the early 1-0 lead in the first, when second baseman, Chad Ehrnsberger singled to bring in lead off man Mike Goss. They then extended their early lead when Jayson Drobiak brought in Ehrnsberger on a single hit to right; Bubba Smith then scored from third on a wild pitch. The Flyers got out of the inning, but were still down 3-0 heading into their first at bat.

Flyers shortstop Geoff McCallum led things off in the first with a hit; he then represented the Flyers first run as he crossed the plate when Chris Weekly grounded out to the shortstop. Center fielder Eric Cole then picked up his fourth homerun of the year when he sent a rocket over the left field fence, shrinking the JackHammers lead to only one run.

McCallum tied things up at three-all in the third when he scored from second on a single hit down the left field line by second baseman Rob Watson.

The Flyers took their first lead in the sixth when right fielder Ben Van Iderstine drove in Weekly from second on a base hit sent through the left side.

Flyers Catcher Nelson Gord stretched the lead to two runs in the seventh when doubled to left field, stole third, and then scored on a wild pitch. The Flyers ended the seventh inning up 5-3.

The game remained scoreless through the last two frames with the Flyers finishing things out on top 5-3.

Flyers starter Rick DeHart picked up his second win of the season, allowing only one run in his final six innings. In all, DeHart threw seven innings, with all but one of his hits coming in the first inning; DeHart settled down and posted a performance worthy of Player of the Game honors.

Dan Jackson came into the game in the ninth, picking up his fifth save of the season.

Luis Villarreal received the loss for the JackHammers, his third of the season. Villarreal went six innings allowing four runs, all earned, on six hits striking out two.

The Flyers and the JackHammers continue their four game series tomorrow at Alexian Field. Game time is set at 6:45 with a Walt Disney World vacation giveaway sponsored by Best Travel and a Fireworks Show following the game.
