Schaumburg Flyers News Release

Schaumburg, IL - The Flyers (13-27, 44-45) broke out of their two-week long lumber slumber in a big way on Sunday afternoon. The offense exploded for seven runs on twelve hits and Joliet (22-20, 38-52) was shutout by a terrific performance from the Schaumburg staff. Schaumburg's 7-0 win gives the team their first victory since August 11th.

The Flyers took off early by scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Chris Weekly drove Sandy Almonte in with a double, and Rob Watson scored on a sacrifice fly from Josue Lopez.

Schaumburg went on the attack again in the fourth, fifth and sixth. Sandy Almonte's 2-out single in the fourth brought home Ryan Walker and the Flyers led 3-0.

The Flyers' big inning came in the fifth when eight batters came to the plate. Rob Marconi's bases loaded single scored two runs. Justin Hendrickson followed with a fielder's choice that led to a throwing error allowing Eric Cole to score and put the Flyers up 6-0.

Lopez drove in his second run of the game in the sixth. His single to right plated Weekly for the second time.

The top of the lineup clicked as they were a combined 8-16 with six runs scored and two RBI's. Almonte, Watson, Weekly, Cole and Walker all had two hits and Lopez and Marconi both drove in two runs.

David Glick made his second appearance for Schaumburg and was even better than in his first start. Glick went six innings and allowed just four hits. He combined with Matt Schweitzer, Dan Jackson, and Nate Cotton to shutout the JackHammers on just six total hits.

Glick gets his first Flyers win while Derell McCall is the loser for Joliet.

Sunday's game was the final regular season game at Alexian Field in 2006. The Flyers don't return home until they host games one and two of the playoffs on September 5th and 6th.

Schaumburg begins a four game series in Gary on Monday.
