Schaumburg Flyers News Release

Schaumburg, IL- The Schaumburg Flyers gave their 5,813 fans in attendance something to cheer about as the Flyers took the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks in a 5-3 home opener victory.

After the Redhawks scored a run in the top of the second, the Flyers retaliated in the bottom of the inning with a rocket hit by Dario Delgado to left field. Christian Snavely followed with a shot to right field. An error on the right fielder?s throw advanced Snavely to third base and allowed Delgado to score putting the Flyers on the Alexian Field score board for the first time this season.

The Redhawks immediately fought back in the top of the third with a hit by Mike Just and a home run by Jon Weber to make the score 3-2 Redhawks.

Grybash shut the Redhawks down in the top of the fourth pitching a groundout and two strikeouts. The Flyers? offense exploded in the bottom of the fourth with lead off singles from Snavely and Kevin Bass. Almonte took control of the game as he pounded a single into center field, bringing in Bass and Snavely. Heath followed with a bullet over the right fielder?s head scoring Almonte and earning the first triple for the Flyers this season.

Grybash pitched three more scoreless innings, pitching a total of seven innings with seven strikeouts, four hits, and no walks. New pitcher Brandon Villafuerte made a great first impression, coming in to relieve Grybash in the eighth and giving up two hits, no walks, and striking out three. James Morrison came in for the top of the ninth and pitched a scoreless inning with two strikeouts for the save, his second.
