Schaumburg Flyers News Release

Joliet, IL- Three was the lucky number for the Schaumburg Flyers (8-10) as they scored a trio of runs en route to a 3-2 victory, the Flyers' third consecutive win, over the Joliet Jackhammers (8-10). The Flyers scored all three runs in the 3rd inning, and despite attempts by Joliet to take the lead, Schaumburg's bullpen was unwilling to do so.

The Flyers' 3rd inning started with a pair of singles by outfielders Billy Malone and Kevin House. With two on and nobody out, Flyers second baseman Demetrius Heath tried to sacrifice himself by bunting down the third base side. However, once Jackhammers starting pitcher Raymond Jenkins (0-2) retrieved the ball, he bobbled it, allowing Heath to reach safely. The bases were loaded with nobody out, and up came shortstop Sandy Almonte. Almonte made contact, sending a deep line out to center, giving Billy Malone enough time to tag up and score the game's first run. After a Christian Snavely strikeout, Dario Delgado stepped in with two on and two out. Delgado hit a pop fly on the infield, with all of the Jackhammers infielders converging. First baseman Juan Diaz would try to make the catch, but it fell off his mitt, as House and Heath scored on the 2-run gaffe by Diaz. It was 3-0 Flyers at that point, and they never looked back.

Palatine native Dan Grybash (2-1) earned his second win of the season, going 6.2 innings allowing just 2 runs on 4 hits, walking 3 and striking out one. He had a rough start to the game, giving up a leadoff double to Jackhammers centerfielder Anthony Monegan. Monegan would move to third base with one out, but would be stranded there at the end of the inning. But, after that first inning, Grybash would dominate, up until the 6th inning, where he'd allow Joliet to cut into the 3-run lead. Grybash exited with 2 outs in the 7th inning, after giving up an RBI single to Joliet second baseman Eric Scriven to cut the Flyers lead to one run.

The Flyers bullpen looked solid tonight, as Brandon Villafuerte pitched 1.1 hitless innings, striking out a pair. And, Flyers closer James Morrison picked up his fourth save of the season, the second in two games, going an inning, allowing 1 hit, 1 walk, and striking out 2.

Going for their fourth straight win of the season, the Flyers will send left-hander Drew Dickinson to the mound in the second game of a 3-game series against Joliet. First pitch is scheduled for 11:05am.

The Schaumburg Flyers will return to Alexian Field on Friday, June 8 to take on the Kansas City T-Bones. First pitch for that game is for 6:45pm, and fireworks will go off following the Flyers game. The post-game fireworks show is presented by Jewel-Osco. Tickets are available at the Alexian Field box office or online at www.flyersbaseball.com.
