Flyers, Hahn end regular season with a win, playoffs Tuesday

Joliet, IL - Rolling Meadows native Charlie Hahn (1-0) not only helped the Flyers (15-33, 46-50) avoid a series sweep in the regular season finale against the Joliet Jackhammers, but in doing so forced the Jackhammers (26-22, 42-54) into a one-game playoff versus the Gary-Southshore Railcats to determine the winner of the second-half Eastern Division title.
Hahn, a surprise last second starter announced by Manager Andy McCauley just hours before the game, allowed only two hits and one run over seven solid innings of work before giving way to Dan Jackson in the eighth. Closer Nate Cotton came on in the ninth to nail down the victory for the Flyers and netted his 17th save of the season.
The bottom of the order got the job done for the Flyers in the second inning as Tim Marks tallied a two-out double. After a Rob Marconi walk, back-to-back RBI singles off of Jackhammers' starter Matt Smith (4-5) by Ryan Walker and Nelson Gord accounted for the Flyers' offensive output for the evening.
Marks's two hits on the evening wrapped up an impressive offensive showing for the Flyers' backstop in this series which included a 6-for-11 performance with two runs scored.
The Flyers finished the second half with a record of 15-33 and an overall record of 46-50. Schaumburg now awaits the winner of the one-game playoff to be contested at Gary tomorrow afternoon between the Railcats and Jackhammers. The winner will earn a berth in the divisional round of the Northern League playoffs against the Flyers with Game 1 slated for a 7:05 p.m. first pitch at Alexian Field on Tuesday night.
The first half champion Flyers have already secured a spot in the postseason. The 2006 Northern League playoffs will kickoff on September 5th and 6th with Schaumburg hosting two first round games. Both games will begin at 7:05 PM.
