Orange County Flyers News Release

Good pitching beats good hitting...and vice versa.

Sunday night the Flyers had both, and they stole game three of the series in Yuma, ending their 4 game losing streak with a 6-5 victory.

Todd Gelatka picked up the win (now 2-0), and starter Chris Jakubauskas, after missing his turn in the rotation due to tenderness in his elbow, was called upon in the 8th inning to come in and earn a two inning save for the Flyers. "Jak" struck out the first hitter he faced, and then induced an inning-ending double play, after inheriting a runner from Robert Mason.

Toshi Sasa, playing due to the mild injury to Rick Elder, was the hitting star for the Flyers, lining two singles late in the game, resulting in 3 RBI.

The Flyers (4-6) head to San Diego to take on the 2005 GBL Champion Surf Dawgs, for a three game set beginning on Monday night.

These three games will be the last in a 13 game road trip to start the season, and the Flyers will open up on Thursday night at home at Goodwin Field on the campus of Cal State Fullerton with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 PM vs. the Yuma Scorpions.
