Tampa Bay Vipers News Release

PLANT CITY, Fla. -- QB/RB Quinton Flowers returned to the Tampa Bay Vipers on Monday after leaving the team for personal reasons following the Vipers loss to the Houston Roughnecks in Week 3.

He expressed frustration with his limited role and said he took some time away to contemplate his future with the organization.

"I'm not a quitter," said Flowers in Wednesday's post-practice press conference. "I'm doing it for the kids that look up to me. I want to finish off strong. We'll see what God has in front of me and not behind me."

Flowers confirmed that he desires to be traded from the Vipers but said that while he's here, he's going to do what he's asked to help the team. "At the end of the day, I just want to play football," he said. "Me and coach Trestman talked, and, at the end of the day, I just want to help this team win and do whatever it takes to win."

Head coach Marc Trestman has said that Flowers has not expressed to him, nor personnel director Josh Hinch, that he wants to be traded. Trestman has plans to use Flowers on Sunday but has not said in what capacity or role.

Flowers practiced with the running backs Wednesday, backing up Jacques Patrick, as De'Veon Smith was being rested. "I spent 45 minutes with him on the field going through quarterback [drills], making sure he can operate at that position," said Trestman.

"His presence here, his demeanor, was great," Trestman said. "We talked to him to [Tuesday] to make sure he understood what is at stake. We'll have things for Q in there as we move through the week, and we'll see where he's at."

Trestman has stated that QB Taylor Cornelius will start Sunday at the Los Angeles Wildcats and Aaron Murray will serve as the backup.
