Florida remains on top in week two af2 Coaches Poll

April 4, 2007 - arenafootball2 (af2) News Release

CHICAGO - The Florida Firecats received 435 points and 19 first place votes to remain in first place in the Week 2 Coaches Poll, the arenafootball2 (af2) league office announced today. The high-powered Firecats defeated the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz at home this past weekend, 55-22, to solidify their claim to the top spot for the second straight week.

The Spokane Shock topped the Stockton Lightning, 51-35, in Week 1 to remain in second place with 407 points (6 first place votes). The Quad City Steamwheelers (384 points, five first place votes) vaulted into the third spot after a convincing road win against the Cincinnati Jungle Kats, 81-21. The Tulsa Talons slipped one spot to fourth despite their strong, 61-30, Week 1 home win against Everett. W-B/Scranton moved up from No. 6 to No. 5 after its home win against preseason No. 4 Manchester. The expansion Boise Burn and Fort Wayne Fusion, who both earned impressive Week 1 wins, worked their way into the Top-10 this week as well.

Each week during the season af2 coaches will vote for the Top 16 teams in the league by ranking them one through 16 on a ballot. Teams ranked first receive 16 points with the point value decreasing by one for each place below first, meaning a team ranked 16th would receive one point. Total points will determine the Top 16 list. In the event of a tie in total points, the team with the greater number of first-place votes will be ranked higher. The af2 Coaches Poll will be announced every Wednesday during the regular season. Coaches are not allowed to vote for their own team and the poll results have no bearing on postseason qualification.

The complete Top 16 is listed below. The number in parentheses indicates the number of first place votes the team received.
