Florida Seals News Release
[KISSIMMEE, Fla.] -With the season just 45 days away Head Coach Tommy Stewart continues to fill out his roster. After locking up many players he has coached the past two seasons, a young player was invited to camp today.
Ryan Baker will join the Florida Seals this October at the Silver Spurs Arena. Baker spent last season playing for Garry Unger and the Mechanics in the United Hockey League (UHL).
As a rookie, Baker appeared in 51 games for Motor City scoring five goals and four assists. The six-foot right wing is expected to add depth to the Seals offense according to Stewart.
"I expect Ryan to chip in at least 15 goals this year for us," said Stewart. "He played for Garry last year and was an excellent up and down winger and is a hard worker all over the ice."
This could be the first year Baker will be asked to score on a consistent basis. Before he was in Motor City, the 185 pounder played two years for the South Alberta Institute of Technology. In 39 games he showed the skills to be a scorer but was counted on as a physical presence with 114 penalty minutes.
"I know he is used to having been a physical player on the ice," said Stewart. "I have guys that will lead our team physically and I hope that Ryan will have a break out year offensively."
Get ready for the home opener Saturday, October 29 at the Silver Spurs Arena. The puck will drop for the first ever hockey game in the arena at 7:35 pm versus the Jacksonville Barracudas.
