Bradenton Marauders News Release
DUNEDIN, Fla. - A fourth-inning solo home run by Endy Rodriguez turned out to be all the scoring the Marauders would need in a 1-0 two-hit shutout of the Dunedin Blue Jays on Wednesday night at TD Ballpark.
Santiago Florez (1-1) dominated through a season-high six innings on the mound for the Marauders (17-9), striking out a career-high 10 batters while allowing just two hits. The right-hander combined with relievers Parker Brahms and Enmanuel Mejia to strike out 17 Blue Jays batters, one shy of matching the club's single-game record of 18 strikeout, set on June 23, 2011.
The win was the Marauders' eighth in a row, moving the team within one win of matching the franchise's record of nine straight wins, set in 2011. The shutout was also Bradenton's first since the team's 2-0 victory in the combined no-hitter against the Blue Jays on May 15.
After right-hander Trent Palmer held Bradenton scoreless over the first three innings in his professional debut, Endy Rodriguez launched a solo homer to right field off Blue Jays (8-18) piggyback starter Jol Concepcion (1-3) with one out in the fourth inning.
The Marauders would put just two more runners aboard over their final five innings at the plate, as Concepcion held Bradenton scoreless to keep the game close for his team.
Dunedin, meanwhile, threatened to score against Brahms in the seventh and eighth innings. The right-hander walked the first two men he faced in the seventh before retiring the next three in a row, then maneuvered around a leadoff hit-by-pitch and a two-out walk to strand runners on the corners in the eighth.
Mejia earned his second save in the ninth, striking out the side in order for the Marauders.
The series continues Thursday with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at TD Ballpark. RHP Eddy Yean (1-1, 8.49 ERA) will start for the Marauders against RHP Nathanael Perez (Season Debut) for the Blue Jays.
