Florence Y'alls News Release
FLORENCE, KY - The Florence Y'alls (40-30) won game one of the scheduled doubleheader over Gateway by a final score of 6-4. Game two was postponed and will be made up as part of another doubleheader tomorrow, starting at 11 AM ET.
Florence sent RHP Chase Hopewell to make his first start of the year in game one. The former University of Cincinnati starter picked up two quick outs before unraveling in the rain. Hopewell loaded the bases before a brief rain delay paused action. When action resumed, Hopewell allowed three runs on a wild pitch and a two-run single, ending his night after 1.1 innings.
The Y'alls put up a crooked number in the third when Hank Zeisler drilled a three-run homer to left field to tie the game 3-3. It marked the 47th home run of Zeisler's career, which broke the All-Time Franchise record of 46, previously held by Brennan Price ('22-'23). Zeisler now owns the Franchise record in hits, home runs, RBIs, and runs scored, plus he is two walks and doubles away from those records as well.
In the 4th, Jackson Tucker led off the inning with a solo blast to take the lead. Gateway roped a solo homer to tie the game in the fifth. Once again, Captain Clutch, Zeisler, came through for Florence with a two-run dinger to take a 6-4 lead. Isaac Milburn delivered 4.2 innings in relief, earning the win, and Aidan McEvoy fired a 1-2-3 seventh inning to pick up his league-high 18th save of the season.
Florence and Gateway return to Thomas More Stadium to finish off the 12-game season series Sunday afternoon in a doubleheader. Both starters remain TBA for both squads. First pitch is set for 11 AM ET for game one, with game two commencing shortly after the first game concludes.
