Florence Y'alls News Release
FLORENCE, KY - The Florence Y'alls (45-31) saw their 11-game win streak snap at the feet of the Brockton Rox on a walk-off sacrifice fly in the 10th inning. Three homers and 10 runs were not enough to overcome pitching struggles, falling 11-10.
Florence got on base and on the board early, facing former Y'all Eli Majick. They scored a run in each of the first two innings, thanks to RBI base hits from Zade Richardson and Brett Blomquist. Majick settled in, stranding batters in the third and fourth, but his day was done after loading the bases with nobody out in the fifth.
Chase Hopewell got his second try as a Florence starter after a rain delay affected his first start. He started clean, giving up a couple of hits but getting out of the first two innings scoreless. It was a short leash from the start; Hopewell was pulled after letting two of the first three runners reach in the third. It was another bulk relief assignment for Isaac Milburn, who had thrived in those moments up to this point, but didn't have his best stuff today, giving up eight runs in just three innings.
Florence went down 6-2 in the fifth and immediately responded. Garrett Broussard singled to score a run, and Marcus Brodil pulled a 402-foot three-run blast into right to tie it up. A few batters later, Florence took an 8-6 lead when Brett Blomquist launched a go-ahead two-run shot.
Milburn's line ended when Jett Lodes walked two of his runs in, putting Brockton right back on top 10-9. As Florence has done all season, Richardson answered the next inning with his ninth homer of the season. The New Richmond native finished with a 3-for-5 day and 2 RBIs. Brockton decided to go to their All-Star closer early in the seventh, and he sat down all seven batters he faced.
With the bats falling asleep at the end of regulation, Florence's bullpen had to work some magic once again. Will Carsten walked and gave up a hit to the first two batters he saw in his eighth, but got out of it with a double play and a strikeout.
It was Aidan McEvoy's game from there. He got two punchouts of Brockton's best two batters to strand a runner and send it to extras. After the Y'alls couldn't score in the top of the tenth, Brockton bunted the automatic runner to third, and a sacrifice fly won it, snapping Florence's 11-game win streak.
Florence will look to even the series tomorrow with CJ Blowers on the mound. He'll be opposed by Zach Eldred. First pitch is set for 6:30 PM ET.
