Florence Arms Stifle Sussex County En Route to Third Straight Sweep, 11th Straight Win

FLORENCE, KY - The Florence Y'alls (45-30) completed a sweep of the Sussex County Miners on Wednesday thanks to a scoreless start from Nathan Lawson and back-to-back home runs in the fourth leading to a 4-1 win.
Coming off of a complete game where he gave up just one run, Nathan Lawson got the start for Florence and dazzled once again. Lawson was efficient to start, throwing just 48 pitches in his first four scoreless innings of work. With just one strikeout heading to the fifth, Lawson used his slider to get out of his first jam with two runners on, striking out three. He finished the game with seven scoreless innings and six strikeouts, allowing six hits and a pair of walks.
The Florence offense came out swinging once again, getting their first run in the second after Zade Richardson walked and later came around on a Dillon Baker sac fly. Skylands Stadium had played deep all series long, until Milo Rushford crushed a moon-shot home run to right field, the first homer of the series. The second comes moments later as Dillon Baker pulls a no-doubter to left. The back-to-back homers put Florence up 3-0. Dillon Baker finished a 2-2 day with a couple of RBIs. The Y'alls got their fourth and final run the next inning on a Hank Zeisler sac-fly. They went 12-up-12-down in their last four innings against the Sussex County bullpen.
Jake Lynch was the first out of the bullpen to relieve Lawson, and immediately faced a scare. He saw the minimum three batters and was pulled after allowing two to reach, recording just one out in the seventh. Logan Jones then came in to clean it up when the game-tying run drilled a flyball out to the wall, Brendan Bobo had just enough room to record the out. Jones got a strikeout to get out of the inning.
Florence manager Toby Hall elected to go to Danny Heintz for his second save of the series. Like the first, he allowed two runners to reach in the ninth on a double and a walk. Henitz tiptoed around it, getting former Y'all Keenan Taylor to pop up as the last out of the game.
The win completes the third straight sweep for Florence and third series win in three attempts against the Atlantic Conference. They will finish inter-conference play this weekend when they head to Brockton for a three-game series with the Rox.
