HUNTSVILLE, Ala., February 5, 2002 â The Huntsville Flight will play host to the A-Team Honors Banquet Feb. 7 at 6 pm to celebrate honor roll students from Lincoln, Martin Luther King, Jr., Terry Heights and West Huntsville elementary schools and their parents at the Von Braun Center. In addition, the invitees will also be provided admission to that night's Flight game against the Columbus Riverdragons at 7:30 p.m.
Some facts about the A-Team Program:
This program encourages, promotes and rewards children for achieving a position on their school's respective honor roll
Currently twenty-plus area schools participate in this program
Each honoree receives a trophy and any child receiving honors from each ceremony (3 per year) receives a "Grand" Trophy at their school's annual award ceremony
The incentive of being honored and awarded a trophy in front of schoolmates and parents has proven successful â thus far this program has seen a 28% increase in students being named to the honor roll
In the last three years, the A-Team has presented over 2,700 trophies, 40 computers and over 200 door prizes, served over 7,800 meals and provided transportation for over 2,200 participants
Since the program's inception in 1998, four area schools on "academic alert" have now been declared "academically" clear
The A-Team program is a partnership endeavor with the following organizations, The Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Huntsville, Girls Inc., and Second Mile Development Parent Initiative.
