Huntsville Flight News Release

Huntsville, Ala. (Mar. 6) –Dazzle guard Matt Carroll scored 21 points, sinking 5-8 from 3-point range to lead Roanoke to a 100-90 win over the Huntsville Flight in tonight's NBDL game.

Trailing by seven in the final minute of the game, Flight (17-17) guard Mateen Cleaves stepped up, scoring the team's last six points, attempting to repeat the feat of last night's comeback win over Charleston.

Roanoke (19-15), however, played better game management, controlling the clock in the final minute and forcing Huntsville to foul to change possession. The Dazzle scored 7-of-8 free throws maintaining their lead and sealing the win.

"Roanoke beat us," said Flight head coach Ralph Lewis. "They converted baskets when it counted and maintained pressure when they needed it. We never got from behind the eight-ball."

Dazzle players Carroll, Josh Asselin, Marque Perry, and Terrence Shannon combined to outscore the Flight 37-23 in the third quarter as they shot 77.8 percent from the field, sinking 14-of-18 and connecting on 7-of-10 from long range. Roanoke used this shooting streak to stretch a three-point lead at halftime to a 17 point lead by the start of the fourth quarter.

The Dazzle waged a balance scoring attack as all players scored and five finished in double figures. Perry posted a double-double scoring 21 points and dishing 11 assists. Asselin tossed in 17 points while Shannon had a double-double of 14 points and 16 rebounds and Geoff Owens posted a double-double of 11 points and 11 boards.

The Flight was led by Mateen Cleaves who scored 24 points on 11-for-16 shooting. Erick Barkley came off the bench to score 17 and Rod Grizzard tossed in 13.

With the win, Roanoke maintains second place in league standings. The loss drops the Flight to fourth place with Asheville taking third.

Roanoke returns to action on Wednesday to host Asheville. The Flight is off until Friday when it travels to Roanoke to take on the Dazzle in a weekend series.
