Flight Announce Local Tryouts

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Huntsville Flight will hold local player tryouts October 16-17 at Optimist Park in Huntsville. The tryouts will give local basketball players an opportunity to earn an invitation to the Flight's 2004 training camp.

Flight coaches Ralph Lewis and Michael Born will direct the tryouts. The Saturday session will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Afterward the coaches will select players to invite back for the second session, scheduled for 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Pre-registration fee for the camp is $100 through October 1, and $125 for all payments received after October 1. Registration forms are available online at huntsvilleflight.com or by calling the Flight office at (256) 429-1000. Accepted forms of payment are cash, cashier's check, money order, or credit card (no personal checks). Participants can register at the event beginning at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, but the event is limited to the first 100 applicants who turn in the completed registration forms and fees. Participants must be at least 20 years old.

Guard Cheyne Gadson emerged from last year's tryouts to earn an invitation to training camp, and went on to play 34 games for the Flight.

The NBDL, the NBA's minor league, includes the Fayetteville Patriots (N.C.), Florida Flame (Ft. Myers), Huntsville Flight (Ala.), Roanoke Dazzle (Va.), Columbus Riverdragons (Ga.) and Asheville Altitude (N.C.).

The league offers players the opportunity to develop their talent in a highly competitive atmosphere under the NBA's umbrella. Since the NBDL's inaugural season began in November 2001, 28 players have been called up to the NBA on 39 separate occasions. Seven former NBDL coaches, four athletic trainers, six referees and 24 front office executives have also been called up.

Designed to help grow the sport of basketball both domestically and internationally, the league also offers fun, family entertainment at affordable prices. The NBDL is a source of on-court talent for the NBA's 30 teams and is a diverse human resources pool for the NBA and its teams by training employees in management, operations, public relations, sales and marketing positions.
