
Flicek's goals lift Dayton to 8-5 victory over Danbury

Dayton, OH - The Dayton Demonz relied on the scoring touch of Luke Flicek, who netted two goals, to beat the Danbury Whalers, 8-5.
Flicek scored on the power play at 16:55 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Dayton and again while 13:14 into the third to make the score 6-5 Dayton.
Danbury fell victim to a deadly Dayton power play, which ripped the Whalers for four goals.
Penalties took their toll on the Demonz, as their penalty kill unit let in three power play goals. The 43 shots that Dayton put on net surpassed the Demonz's average of 33.5 shots per game this season.
Dayton additionally got points from Jason Hill, who also had one goal and three assists to lead the team in points, Brayden Metz, who also grabbed one goal and two assists, Jesse Felten, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Marcus Pryde, who also registered one goal and one assist. Dayton also got a goal from Peter Cintala as well. Other players who recorded assists for Dayton were Ahmed Mahfouz, who had three and Ryan Wiley, Jarkko Leppanen, Lucas Schott, and Brian Marks, who each chipped in one.
Danbury forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up seven minors and two majors for 54 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 32.0 minutes per game the Whalers had been spending in the box. With 41 shots on target during the contest, Danbury exceeded the 36.6 shots it averages per game this year.
The Whalers were led by Greg Holt, who had one goal and two assists. Holt scored on the power play 50 seconds into the second period to make the score 1-1. Max Mobley picked up the assist. Danbury also got points from Kamil Vavra, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Mike Atkinson also scored for Danbury. In addition, Danbury received assists from Paul DAgostino, Cody Ayers, Leland Fidler, Adam Houli, and Tyler Noseworthy, who contributed one a piece.
Jeff Rose recorded 36 saves for Dayton. The Demonz ended with 21 minutes in penalty time with eight minors and one major. Mike Brown made 35 saves for Danbury on 43 shots. For the Whalers, Kelly Miller was ejected from the game.
