Fleet to Host Community Drive on April 1

San Diego Fleet News Release


The Fleet will be hosting its first-ever community drive on Monday, April 1 at SDCCU Stadium. The drive, which features the San Diego Blood Bank, the San Diego Food Bank and the Alpha Project, will take place from noon-6 p.m. in the A1 section of the SDCCU Stadium parking lot.

Donors will receive two complimentary tickets to the Fleet's final regular-season home game on April 14 against the Arizona Hotshots.

The San Diego Blood Bank is dedicated to community health by providing a reliable supply of blood to patients in need. Its vision is to further ensure the health of our community by simultaneously delivering related health and wellness education and services and extending into research. The blood bank is an independent, 501(c)(3) non-profit that serves hospitals in San Diego, Orange, Imperial and Los Angeles counties with blood transfusion products and reference laboratory services.

"San Diego Blood Bank has partnered with many local sports teams on blood drives and giveaways over the years, and are excited to now be partnering with the San Diego Fleet," said San Diego Blood Bank Public Relations Manager Claudine Van Gonka.

Alpha Project strives to end homelessness for its clients by offering jobs, respect and empowerment. The mission of the Alpha Project is to empower individuals, families, and communities by providing work, recovery and support services to people who are motivated to change their lives and achieve self-sufficiency.

The Alpha Project most needs donations of:

* Clothing

* Socks

* Blankets

* Soap

* Shampoo

The San Diego Food Bank is seeking donations of canned food items, such as:

* Meats

* Fish

* Soup

* Vegetables

* Fruits

* Beans

* Cereal

* Rice

* Peanut butter

* Oatmeal

* Powdered milk

* Infant formula

"We are very grateful to the San Diego Fleet for supporting our mission with a community drive," said Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank president & CEO James Floros. "Donations are critical to the San Diego Food Bank since we are currently feeding 350,000 people per month in communities throughout San Diego County. On behalf of the Food Bank's staff and family of volunteers, we thank the San Diego Fleet for giving back to the community and helping our fellow San Diegans in need."
