Flash Look to Maintain Strong Form against Boston Breakers

ELMA, N.Y. - Coming off a big 5-2 win over Sky Blue FC, the Western New York Flash hope to have a similar performance this week against the visiting Boston Breakers. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. at Rochester Rhino's Stadium with a live stream available at youtube.com/NWSL.
The Flash kicked off their seven game home stand with an impressive offensive performance. Forward Jessica McDonald opened scoring in just the fifth minute of the match when she flew up to meet a corner kick taken by defender Jaelene Hinkle. In the 19th minute, Sam Mewis doubled the lead with a header of her own and minutes later Lynn Williams also managed to find the back of the net. McDonald finished off the half with another goal in stoppage time to put the Flash up 4-0 at half.
Sky Blue FC's Kelley O'Hara came out in the second half, determined to keep her team in the contest with a goal in the 55th minute and drawing a penalty in the 87th minute that Sarah Killion put away. But Flash rookie Michaela Hahn put the final touch on the Flash attack in the 61st minute when she netted her first professional goal.
"It was definitely the kind of performance we needed as a team," said Mewis. "It felt good getting a few goals, and it ultimately gives us confidence which is huge."
The Boston Breakers had a breakthrough last week as they scored their first goal of the season that led to their first win of 2016. Whitney Engen managed to get the lone goal of the game to lead the Breakers past FC Kansas City.
Friday will be the first meeting between Western New York in Boston this season. After last week's dominant performance, the Flash lead the NWSL in goals (eight) and shots (81), a trend the team looks to continue.
"I think our focus as a team is more on ourselves than on Boston," said McDonald. "We want to just continue to create chances and make sure we're putting our shots on frame. I think last week helped a lot with our confidence in front of the net, and we're just looking to keep that going."
The Flash remain in Rochester, N.Y., when they play host to the Orlando Pride at 7:00 p.m. Tickets for the game are available at wnyflash.com/tickets.
