Western New York Flash News Release

Elma, N.Y. (Thursday, April 18, 2013) - The Western New York Flash travel to the Nation's capital on Saturday with one thing in mind: to win. After a balanced opening weekend for the NWSL, the Flash returned home as the only team to not pick-up a point in their season debut.

Falling 1-0 to Sky Blue FC on Sunday, with the opponent's lone tally coming on an own goal, the Flash aim to earn their first points at 7 p.m. against the Washington Spirit. The game will be played at the Maryland Sportsplex and will also be streamed live on YouTube.

Rookie goalkeeper Adrianna Franch shined in her debut with the squad, making seven saves (all in the second half) with many coming at close range. Franch was named the game's Most Valuable Player and went on to finish in fourth place for NWSL Player of the Week voting.

Rochester native Abby Wambach had the Flash's best opportunity at an equalizer late in second half stoppage time, but her tying attempt sailed high of the crossbar. Wambach and the Flash will look to redeem themselves on Saturday.

The NWSL opened with all eight teams in action over the past weekend. Three of the four games saw draws, resulting in a six-way tie for second place (1 point each). With the only win of the week, Sky Blue FC sits in the league lead with three points, while WNY is in eighth.

The Flash will open their home season on Saturday, April 27th at 7:35 p.m. against the Boston Breakers. Individual game and season tickets are still available. Tickets can be purchased online or by calling (585) 545-KICK.
